We need your help to ensure Sound Transit can keep building light rail across the Puget Sound Region as quickly as possible. Senate Bill 6148 would give Sound Transit the financial flexibility it needs by allowing it to issue 75-year bonds.

Thanks to many of you, this bill was passed out of the Senate Transportation Committee last week. Together, we sent more than 2,200 letters to members of the committee. Now, it needs your help to get through the full Washington State Senate.

Why is this important? Because building light rail to Tacoma, Everett, West Seattle, Ballard, and a second downtown tunnel all at the same time is a huge expense. Sound Transit is a rich agency. The challenge is when, not whether Sound Transit has money available. As Sound Transit board members consider cost-saving scenarios this spring, having this financial tool could help them avoid cutting projects, keep projects moving on schedule, and stick together as a region.

SB 6148 needs to be voted out of the Senate by February 17th. Help us show that people want to get light rail built. Email your senator today to ask them to support SB 6148.

Our state doesn’t have time for its biggest region to be stuck in traffic. Puget Sound voters overwhelmingly voted for Sound Transit 3 in 2016. With over 717,000 “Yes” votes, it was the largest vote for transit in our region’s history.  The sooner we build these projects, the sooner we get working families out of traffic and put more opportunities within reach.
