It’s been an uncertain time for transit in King County with bus cuts looming large. But things have started to look up. And we now have a chance to grow bus service in a big way!

Many of you will rightfully ask, “How did we just go from saving buses to expanding transit?” The answer is complicated but as a result of a rebounding economy and additional efforts to increase efficiencies, we are in a position to stabilize our current bus service and expand in Seattle.

But it has come at a cost.

Right now, the County Council is considering canceling cuts by reducing Metro’s reserve. Metro has a reserve for a reason – to protect bus riders from deep cuts during economic downturns. It’s why we were able to stave off cuts for so long and weather previous recessions. By reducing the reserve, we increase the risk of future cuts. That’s no way to run a system that gets hundreds of thousands of riders to work and school and we don’t support this short-sighted policy choice.

Despite this uncertainty, voters in Seattle can take their transit fate into their own hands for the first time in six years, by supporting Transportation Proposition 1 to keep the bus service we have and expand that bus service in our rapidly growing city.

By voting yes on Prop. 1 we can finally invest in growing our transit system, fix overcrowding, and make our buses more reliable. So what would bus service look like in Seattle if we passed Prop.1?

  • How about more service on overcrowded routes such as Rapid Ride C and D, 5, 8, 16, 28, 40, 41, 44, 48, 70, 71X to name a few?
  • How about making routes all over the city more reliable? This will mean better service for routes such as 1, 2, 3, 7, 10, 11, 14, 16, 21, 24, 25, 27, 28, 28X, 32, 33, 37, 43, 55, 56, 57, 60, 64X, 66X, 72, and 74X for example.

Today, we are five weeks away from the election. We’ll be knocking on doors, calling voters, and getting on crowded buses to talk to people about why they should vote yes on Transportation Prop. 1.

Will you help us win ? We need all the help we can get to expand our transit system. Here’s what you can do!

  • Support our one day fundraiser Blitz for Buseson October 1 so we can contact as many voters as possible.
  • Volunteerto phone bank or doorbell.
  • Tell all your friends and neighbors to vote yes to expand transit.
