Ride Transit Month 2023 is officially a wrap! All June long we celebrated riding transit with partners and riders across Washington state. More than 350 people took our Ride Transit Month pledge and we loved seeing your photos of rides on social media. We also played Transit Bingo and hosted 3 events: a Transit Talk, Transit Trivia, and Ride Transit Night at the Ballpark. Here’s a look back at everything that happened this month!
Ride Transit Month Proclamations
We are thrilled that Washington State made Ride Transit Month official for the second year in a row! By issuing this proclamation, Washington made clear that transit is an important part of our communities that deserves our attention and support. Several local jurisdictions joined in with their own proclamations, including King County, Jefferson County, Pierce County, and the City of Tacoma!
Transportation Choices Coalition is proud that our state has affirmed transit as an integral part of our communities. Support for transit and mobility justice was loud and clear across Washington this month and we are grateful for such strong leadership from those dedicated to moving us forward.
Ride Transit Month Pledge
Ride Transit Month began with a pledge asking Washingtonians to commit to riding transit at least five times in June. The response really showed the statewide support for transit here in Washington. More than 350 people from 46 cities across Washington, 6 other states, and 4 other countries (wow!!) pledged to ride.
Transit Bingo
Transit Bingo made its debut this year! We saw so many fun pictures on social media and sent to us by email of you all completing mini-challenges throughout the month. We loved seeing your pictures of dogs on the bus, the treats transit helped you enjoy, and the fun activities you joined via transit.
Going to be multi-bingo by the end of the day! #ridetransitmonth #ridetransit @SoundTransit pic.twitter.com/FEV7OZsENg

Jim submitted a #TransitBingo card in hopes of winning a #RideTransitMonth t-shirt this week. Jim has one transit t-shirt already, and he’s noticed it has it’s own kind of magic: every time he wears it someone stops to say hello. He shared this amazing story with us... 1/5 pic.twitter.com/0uOqLFGVac

Bingo! #RideTransitMonth @TranspoChoices happy to live in a region with such great and improving transit options. Let’s keep making it better so driving is not the default mode. #sustainable #TransportationOptions pic.twitter.com/NxmNUcNDq8

Ride Transit Month Events
Transportation Choices Coalition hosted three events during Ride Transit Month to give our community of riders and advocates a way to come together. Here’s a look back at all of them. Thank you to everyone who joined us!
Transit Trivia
Transit Trivia was back again! King County Metro Operator Tonya Abernathy led our group through a great evening of transit-themed questions. The BeerOCrats (pictured left) reigned supreme and took home the win! Thank you so much to Métier Brewing for hosting us and thank you to Lime for sponsoring Transit Trivia!
Transit Talk: How Riders Can Shape Transportation
Our Ride Transit Month Transit Talk saw a great panel of speakers discussing how agencies and organizations can bring community voices to the decision-making process. Check out the recording!
Ride Transit Night at the Ballpark
This year’s rider celebration was one for the books! Over 300 transit enthusiasts joined our section at T-Mobile Park to show their support for transit and cheer on the Mariners. The Ride Transit Month spirit even appeared on the jumbotron!
Partner Events
Ride Transit Month took the state by storm! We were thrilled to see partner organizations and agencies all across Washington celebrating Ride Transit Month. Big shout out to Whatcom Transportation Authority, Pierce Transit, Pierce Trips, and Downtown on the Go for hosting trivia nights in Bellingham and Tacoma!
As Ride Transit Month 2023 comes to a close, our team at Transportation Choices Coalition is so inspired to fiercely advocate for accessible, equitable, and sustainable transportation for our communities, so everyone can get on board. Riders deserve to not only be celebrated, but to be centered in the fight for true mobility justice. We will carry the energy of Ride Transit Month forward in the months and years ahead as we work to build thriving communities in Washington.
Ride on!
