It is clear that I-976 has passed and Tim Eyman has once again deceived voters.

Now, cities and towns across Washington and our State Legislature are forced to make difficult decisions – cutting and delaying critical transit and transportation projects and programs, and grappling with how to fill billions of dollars worth of holes in their budgets.

We are extremely disappointed by the results. The impacts are devastating to everything we believe in and fight for. Vital transit lifelines will be cut for hundreds of thousands of people. Our roads and bridges will lose funding for safety maintenance. Voter-approved light rail expansion will be cut or delayed in the Puget Sound. And yes, there will be more congestion.

We knew this was going to be a tough fight and our work continues. A coalition of over 100 organizations came together to fight I-976. Working alongside labor, climate, and business leaders from every corner of Washington proved once again that transportation is something we all believe in. Our coalition is powerful, united, and fired up. TCC is ready to roll up our sleeves and fight for the transit our communities want, need, and deserve.

  • We will be on the ground in Olympia working to reform our broken tax system and find sustainable, progressive ways to fund transportation. Our state’s gas tax is restricted to highways and there are few tools local governments have to fund local transit and road projects. We can do better.

  • We will continue educating the public on the importance of expanding transit and transportation options and why we need to invest in those options – for the health of people and our planet.

  • We will work to ensure that irresponsible initiatives like I-976 do not decide the safety and mobility of our communities.

Now more than ever, we need your help to fight for more transportation funding so people can get where they need to go. Make a meaningful contribution right now and show that Tim Eyman can’t stop us. Transportation Choices Coalition will continue fighting to improve access to transit and transportation because we believe everyone should have the freedom to move and access opportunities to live a healthy, vibrant life.
