Fans at a Mariners Game holding up signs that read "Ride Transit!"

All throughout June we celebrated transit with partners and riders across Washington. Here’s a look back at some highlights from Ride Transit Month 2024:

18 Washington Jurisdictions Made It Official!

We were thrilled to see jurisdictions across the state, including the State of Washington, issue Ride Transit Month proclamations. Thank you to our partners at SNOTRAC, Downtown on the Go, Valley Transit, C-Tran, and Pierce Transit for championing proclamations in their areas!

Transit Fans Turned Out at Events

Thank you to everyone who joined us for a Ride Transit Month event! TCC hosted three events and loved seeing so many folks at each one of them.

TCC staff and transit fans sing “Take Me Out to the Ballgame.”

More than 200 people joined us for Ride Transit Night at the Ballpark — were you one of them? It was a blast to see the Mariners defeat the Rangers 3-2!

The winning trivia team poses with host Cookie Couture.

Drag Transit Trivia sold out with more than 60 people in attendance! Thank you to Cookie Couture for emceeing the event, Wildrose for hosting us, and SDOT’s Rainbow Road LGBTQ+ Employee Group for supporting this event.

At Lunch and Letter Writing, we moved from celebrating transit to taking action to defend it. Participants heard from the No on 2117 campaign and practiced writing effective letters to the editor to help show the true costs of Initiative 2117.

Our Partners Spread the Ride Transit Month Fun!

Our transit agency and organizational partners helped make Ride Transit Month a truly statewide celebration.

We loved seeing events and engagement from every corner of the state, from Transit Trivia events in Bellingham and Tacoma, to a community cleanup in Seattle, to Valley Transit in Walla Walla bringing Transit Trivia to social media, and Ben Franklin Transit in the Tri-Cities getting on the Transit Bingo train.

We Played Transit Bingo Together

Thank you to everyone who played Transit Bingo! We had so many submissions and hope you all had fun completing the mini-challenges.

325 of You Pledged to Ride Transit!

All across the state, people pledged to ride transit at least five times in the month of June. For some of us, that’s easily done in a couple of days, but for others, it’s a way to start building the habit of taking more trips by transit. Did you complete the challenge?

What’s Next: From Celebration to Action

We love celebrating Ride Transit Month with you each year. Thank you to all the transit riders, operators, agency staff, and advocates for your support, enthusiasm, and energy!

As much as Ride Transit Month is a joyful time, it’s also a time when we reflect on the importance of transit. Transit is essential for the health and well-being of our communities, our climate, and our future. And right now, it’s under threat: Initiative 2117 threatens to reverse our hard-won gains to deliver the transit that Washingtonians need and deserve—investments in new transit and paratransit service, accessible routes to transit, and Youth Ride Free.

Here at Transportation Choices Coalition, we’re doing everything we can to ensure Washingtonians know that transit is on the ballot this year (and vote accordingly). We hope you will stay in this fight with us and continue to voice your support for transit.

What does transit mean to you? We’re collecting stories from transit riders about why transit matters to them. Take a minute to share your story.
