We’re excited to announce the launch of our campaign to repeal Washington’s jaywalking laws, “Free to Walk Washington.”
Ending the enforcement of our state’s jaywalking laws is a top priority of Transportation Choices because jaywalking laws don’t keep people safe and can actually cause harm. The reality is, jaywalking laws don’t protect people from getting hit by cars; are disproportionately enforced against low-income people, people of color, and unhoused individuals; and are an inefficient use of public resources. It’s time for Washington to join places like Virginia, Kansas City, Nevada, and California in addressing outdated and harmful jaywalking laws. All Washingtonians deserve to be “Free to Walk.”
