WHAT A YEAR FOR TRANSPORTATION IN WASHINGTON!

This is what you achieved by supporting Transportation Choices Coalition.

Because you believe in the impact of Transportation Choice’s work, we want to celebrate what you helped accomplish this year:

Washington State Transportation Package. We won a Billion+ in investments for transit, bike and pedestrian projects across the state – a record level! You sent 1000s of emails, called legislators and worked with our coalition to win these investments that will provide better choices for people to get around – quickly, safely and with lower impact on the environment.

Sound Transit 3 Authority. As part of the state transportation package, Sound Transit received $15 Billion in new authority to ask voters to expand high-capacity transit in the Puget Sound region. When ST3 is approved by Puget Sound voters, nearly 90 percent of jobs and homes in more than 50 cities in the region will be connected to fast, frequent and reliable transit.

Let’s Move Seattle campaign wins! TCC led the campaign to bring $930 million in investments in Seattle. The Move Seattle levy will transform mobility and safety for residents in Seattle by investing in 250 blocks of new sidewalks, 7 new Rapid Ride+ transit corridors, bike lanes, and Safe Routes to School for children at every public school.

Expansion of Orca LIFT. Continuing the work from last year, our coalition with Puget Sound Sage, OneAmerica, Transit Riders Union and Seattle/King County Coalition on Homelessness helped expand ORCA LIFT to Sound Transit serving residents in King, Snohomish and Pierce Counties. With this, ORCA LIFT is the most expansive low-income transit fare program in the nation.

More effective Sound Transit 3 projects. TCC, together with advocates from social justice, housing, active transportation, environmental and land use organizations, worked with Sound Transit to update the project evaluation templates for ST3. The templates will help decision-makers choose projects that better meet Sound Transit’s goals, especially around: pedestrian and bicycle access; transit integration; TOD potential; social equity; and environmental impacts.

Community Transit Now wins! Thanks to Snohomish County voters, Community Transit will expand service with the addition of a second SWIFT line, increase service levels, and provide connections to future light rail stations. TCC worked with local community leaders to shape the campaign to win.

Transit ridership is growing and we need to keep up.

This means more stable funding to increase transit service, expanding our light rail network, and growing our community of transit supporters to advocate for better policies and more funding.

Here’s our game plan in 2016 to make this happen. We will be:

  1. Pushing to expanding our light rail system in the Puget Sound region with Sound Transit 3;
  2. Strengthening transit, equity and health connections in regional and local transportation projects.
  3. Educating 50,000 residents with our Ride Transit Month and U-Link opening day campaign.
