Join Transportation Choices Coalition for a Megaproject for Safety Walk & Talk on Division Street in Spokane. This event is part of our Megaproject for Safety, a statewide initiative to transform Washington’s most dangerous state-owned highways and busiest transit streets into safer, more accessible corridors for people walking, rolling, biking, and taking transit.
Date: Wednesday, July 16
Time: 5:00 PM – 6:30 PM
Location: Division Street, Spokane, WA
Address: Meet at the Spokane Convention Center (334 W Spokane Falls Blvd, Spokane, WA 99201)
This Walk & Talk is a guided walking tour that brings together community members, advocates, and decision-makers to experience an example of a Main Street Highway firsthand, hear how Spokane’s leaders are looking to improve it, and hear for it can be an example for the rest of the state. Division Street is a high-speed, state-owned arterial that cuts through the heart of Spokane. It’s also one of the busiest transit streets in the City. While Division serves as a major connector through the city, much of its existing infrastructure doesn’t work for transit riders. With limited crossings, aging infrastructure, and fast-moving traffic, Division Street reflects the urgent need for investment in safer, multimodal infrastructure on our Main Street Highways.
During the event, we’ll share observations together, hear from community members and government leaders on how they are improving Division, and discuss ways to transform main street highways across Washington into streets that truly work for everyone.
The Walk & Talk route will be approximately 1 mile. We will travel via bus and sidewalk. The event will be followed by a happy hour for attendees to eat, drink, and mingle.
