Throughout June, riders, agencies, organizations, and communities across Washington came together once again to celebrate the power of public transit. From soccer and baseball games to trivia nights, statewide challenges, and completed Transit Bingo cards, Ride Transit Month 2026 showed just how much enthusiasm there is for riding transit across our state. Here’s a look back at some of this year’s highlights!

Statewide Recognition for Transit

Ride Transit Month continued to grow across Washington this year, with Governor Ferguson once again proclaiming June as Ride Transit Month statewide.

We were also excited to see that 13 cities and counties issue local Ride Transit Month proclamations, including Spokane, Tacoma, Kirkland, Lake Forest Park, the City of Walla Walla, College Place, Ridgefield, Battle Ground, La Center, Vancouver, Clark County, Pierce County, and Walla Walla County. These proclamations are only possible because of the work of local transit agencies, elected officials, and advocates who champion transit in their communities. Thank you to everyone who helped make this statewide recognition possible!

Transit Fans Showed Up All Month Long

Transportation Choices Coalition hosted three featured events during Ride Transit Month, and each one brought together transit riders from across the region.

We wrapped up Ride Transit Month on June 30 by heading to T-Mobile Park for Ride Transit Night at the Ballpark. Hundreds of transit fans from across the region joined TCC staff to watch the Mariners take on the Angels and celebrate another successful Ride Transit Month together. The evening ended on a high note with an 8–3 Mariners win, making it a fitting finish to a wonderful month!

Transit Trivia returned to Stoup Brewing in Capitol Hill for another evening of friendly competition, led by TCC’s Deputy Director and trivia aficionado, McKenna Lux. Teams tackled questions covering transit systems across the U.S. and beyond, from identifying cities by their fare cards to naming transit lines from a handful of station stops. Congrats to the winning team, The Boop Brigade, for taking the top spot!

Finally, nearly 60 transit supporters gathered at The Royal Room in Columbia City to cheer on the U.S. Men’s National Team during our Transit Fan Soccer Watch Party on June 19. Fans rode transit to the match, enjoyed great company, and celebrated a 2–0 U.S. victory over Australia. A huge thank you to Reese Tanimura and The Royal Room for hosting us.

Transit Bingo and the Ride Transit Pledge Kept Riders Moving

Transit riders embraced this year’s Transit Bingo challenge, with 38 completed Bingo cards submitted from across Washington.

We loved seeing riders explore new routes, visit new destinations, and share their adventures throughout the month. Our own staff even got in on the fun, posting a series of videos on Instagram as they worked toward completing Bingo squares. Check out videos from HoldenMcKennaIz, and Katy!

Throughout June, we were thrilled to partner with
@momchangetheworld to celebrate the joy of riding transit. Together, we hosted an Instagram giveaway that invited riders to celebrate their Transit Bingo adventures and love of public transportation.

Plus, this year, 160 people pledged to ride transit more often throughout June, committing to take more trips by bus, train, ferry, streetcar, or paratransit.

Every additional transit trip helps demonstrate the importance of investing in reliable public transportation, and we’re grateful to everyone who joined the challenge.

Thank You for Riding With Us

Ride Transit Month is one of our favorite times of the year because it celebrates the people who make transit possible: riders, operators, agencies, advocates, elected leaders, and community organizations.

Thank you to everyone who attended an event, completed a Bingo card, took the pledge, helped secure a proclamation, hosted an activity, or simply chose transit more often this June.

Ride Transit Month may be over, but our work to improve public transportation continues year-round. We hope you'll stay connected with Transportation Choices Coalition, support your local transit agencies, and keep riding transit throughout the year.
