An unprecedented workforce shortage in the transit industry jeopardizes its ability to meet growing mobility demands. The consequences are already felt in communities, with reduced service schedules, longer wait times, increased strain on the remaining workforce, and reduced transit ridership. Boosting transit ridership is a key priority for Transportation Choices and we seek to comprehend the nuances of this challenge for agencies of varying sizes throughout the state.

This year, we’ll be defending the Climate Commitment Act and funding for Move Ahead Washington, working to end harmful jaywalking enforcement, and educating lawmakers on transit safety, the workforce shortage, and future revenue options for transportation funding.

We know that transit is one of the safest modes people can use to get around — but there’s still a significant conversation about safety on transit right now. One of Transportation Choices’ top policy priorities is continuing to improve ridership and the transit experience for riders, operators, and other frontline staff.
