Last Tuesday, the Puget Sound region raised over $12.8 million for more than 1,470 local nonprofits through The Seattle Foundation’s GiveBig Day. Thanks to our wonderful supporters, Transportation Choices raised over $7,000 last week.

We are very grateful for this support, because Transportation Choices has never been more relevant than it is right now. At a time when legislators propose transportation packages that are completely out of touch with what voters want, and our state’s largest newspaper editorializes (three times) against saving bus service, it is critical that voices for transit remain strong.

To fight against 60 years of social engineering, a broken tax structure, and openly hostile legislators, we need to be bigger and better than ever. We need the capacity to work in Olympia and in every local community that needs our help. Most importantly, we need to build a strong, statewide movement for change.

Donations from individuals are critical to our success because they are unrestricted—meaning that we can use the money where it is needed, rather than for a particular program. That is why we are launching a major donor drive this month. We’re asking those who can afford it to commit to giving $250 or more over the course of the year. You can give monthly, at one of our events, or all at once. If you can’t afford to be a major donor, we will gratefully accept a gift in any amount.

We don’t care how you do it, as long as you give.

Our game is a long one. Our vision – thriving communities with access to a variety of transportation choices – touches many areas of policy. We spend a lot of effort on identifying and securing a long-term, sustainable funding source for transit, but that’s not all we do. We’re leading the charge to integrate health and social equity into our transportation infrastructure and our communities. We are keeping our eye on how our transportation dollars are being spent statewide. And, we are educating and engaging everyday people to build a strong movement for changing how we get around in this state.

We need to be bigger, better, and stronger, and we need your help to get there.

Thank you in advance for your support of Transportation Choices.
