Transportation Choices Coalition Announces New Executive Director

SEATTLE (Nov. 12, 2015) – Transportation Choices Coalition’s (TCC) Board announces the appointment of Shefali Ranganathan as the organization’s new Executive Director. The decision follows the November 3rd election where voters elected Rob Johnson, outgoing TCC Executive Director, as the new Seattle City Councilmember for District 4.

“This is an exciting time for Transportation Choices Coalition,” says Rachel Smith, TCC Board President. “There is incredible momentum from our wins in Seattle and Snohomish County with the passage of Move Seattle and Community Transit Now. Under Shefali’s leadership, TCC is poised to bring even more transportation options to our region and state in 2016.”

Shefali Ranganathan has worked at TCC since 2007 and has served as TCC’s Deputy Director since 2009. She brings over 12 years of policy experience and most recently led the Let’s Move Seattle campaign, a voter-approved $930 million levy to invest in transit, public safety, and maintenance projects.

“I am thankful for the leadership of TCC and Shefali in helping to pass Prop.1 to bring transformative investments to our city’s transportation system. I look forward to working with TCC and Shefali to make this vision a reality, ” said Seattle Mayor Ed Murray.

"I’m excited to see Shefali Ranganathan take the reins of TCC next year, to continue the mission of bringing more efficient and reliable transportation choices to the people of our region. In 2016, my office will continue to work on a host of projects with Transportation Choices, most notably the plan to bring Sound Transit 3 to voters next November,” said King County Executive and Sound Transit Board Chair Dow Constantine.

“I’m so excited to have my friend and colleague Shefali Ranganathan take over as Transportation Choices next Executive Director,” said Rob Johnson, outgoing TCC Executive Director. “The decisions voters and elected officials make over the next three years will fundamentally shape our region’s transportation system for the next 100 years. I know that Shefali will ensure those decisions are good for our environment, for working families, and for our region’s mobility. I can think of no one finer to lead TCC!”

Rob Johnson started at TCC in 2004, and has served as TCC’s Executive Director since 2009. He led the coalition to pass Sound Transit 2 that expanded light rail in the Puget Sound region, and helped pass new investments in bus service across the state.
