Rob Johnson, Executive Director

Rob recently became the Executive Director after four years as the Regional Policy Director at Transportation Choices. Rob’s work as Regional Policy Director included leading the passage of $20 Billion in funding for transit in Washington State, serving as the staff lead on the 520 and Alaskan Way Viaduct mediation teams, and implementing several other policy programs including our Transportation 101 program, our Sustainable Cities program, and our Active Transportation Working Group. Prior to Transportation Choices, Rob spent two years as a transportation planning consultant in Washington DC. He has also worked as a grassroots organizer for several political campaigns and as a public sector planner. A graduate of Willamette University in Salem Oregon, Rob also holds a Masters Degree in Urban Planning from UCLA. He lives with his wife Katie in the Eastlake neighborhood of Seattle.
Bill LaBorde, Policy Director

Bill returned to Transportation Choices Coalition in 2008 after several years
away, helping amass big wins for the environmental community on
energy and climate issues. Most recently, Bill was the State Director
at Environment Washington where he helped pass landmark climate
legislation mandating greenhouse gas reductions in state law. Bill
is a recipient of the NW Energy Coalition's Headwaters Award for
his leadership in passing I-937, the Clean Energy Initiative, in
2006. He has been active in various civic affairs, including service
as a Tacoma Planning Commissioner and Tacoma Public Utilities boardmember.
Having recently relocated to Seattle from Tacoma, Bill, his wife
Pam, and kids Theo and Simone, like to go on family bike rides and
sit out on their front porch watching ST test trains go by.
Shefali Ranganathan, Director of Programs

A self-described transportation geek, Shefali joined the Transportation Choices team in 2007 working on education and outreach efforts throughout Washington State helping residents chose transportation alternatives that work for them. Before TCC, Shefali spent time in the other Washington working on federal transportation policy as a transportation policy analyst at the Washington DC-based Environmental and Energy Study Institute (EESI). Shefali has also worked on community-based outreach at the Casey Trees Endowment Fund. She holds a Masters
degree in Environmental Science from American University, as well
as a Masters degree in Environmental Studies from her native India. She is an avid traveler and loves trying out transit systems with her husband Murari in cities around the world.
Andrew Austin, Policy Associate

Andrew Austin is a political junkie turned transit policy nerd with extensive experience managing state and local candidate campaigns in Washington State. He was most recently a staff assistant in the Legislature. At TCC, Andrew is the lead for the state legislative advocacy program, policy work in Pierce County, and local transit ballot measures. Andrew’s passion for transportation policy stemmed for his experiences in college relying on his bicycle and transit in order to get around and has expanded as he has realized how transportation touches nearly everyone’s life and almost all of the pressing political challenges we face. |
