Earth Day is April 22nd. For the next two weeks (April 14th – 30th), Earthshare Washington is hosting the Earth Day Corporate Challenge to encourage local companies to collectively raise $50,000 and volunteer 1,000 hours for environmental causes.

Transportation Choices is a member of Earthshare, so we benefit from their work to help employers connect their employees to organizations that work to protect the environment.

Here’s how to participate in the Earth Day Corporate Challenge.

This year, Earth Day is also Election Day in King County. If your workplace team is looking for a great place to focus some volunteer energy, consider signing up to help pass Proposition 1, an emergency measure to stop deep cuts to King County Metro and fix local roads.

If Proposition 1 doesn’t pass, Metro will cut over 70 routes and reduce or revise almost 100 more. This will be devastating to our natural environment. King County Metro keeps almost 200,000 cars off our roads, significantly reducing runoff, particulate emissions, and greenhouse gasses. Transit also reduces the need to build more roads that encroach further into our critical forests and farmland.

So, celebrate Earth Day by voting to preserve transit service, then gather some coworkers and join the Earth Day Corporate Challenge. To learn more about or sign up, visit http://www.esw.org/earth-day-corporate-challenge
