We asked and you nominated your Transit Heroes. Now it’s time to vote for the People’s Choice Transit Hero!
The nominees are (in alphabetical order):
Claudia Balducci, Mayor of Bellevue and Sound Transit Board member has worked for more than a decade to connect Bellevue with light rail in the region. Her strong support and thoughtful leadership has helped make the East Link project a reality.
Ben Franklin Transit Citizen Advisory Committee: In its 11th year, the CAC in the Tri-Cities area has earned the reputation of being the “eyes and ears” of public transit and comprises of a broad spectrum of community volunteers who work with staff to make the Ben Franklin Transit system successful.
Diane Narasaki, Executive Director, Asian Counseling and Referral Services: Diane is a leader on transit equity issues. Her advocacy for ensuring that transit-dependent communities have access to frequent and reliable transit service is a powerful reminder that transit connects people to opportunity and is a lifeline in many communities.
April Putney, Futurewise and Move King County Now Campaign: April is a long-time transit advocate who has spent years fighting for transit funding (alongside TCC) in Olympia and at the local level. Her leadership of the Move King County Now campaign helped mobilize a broad coalition of business, labor, social justice, environmental and student groups in support of transit service in King County.
Ben Schiendelman: Ben is one of the founders of the Seattle Transit Blog, Seattle Subway and Friends of Transit. His signature-gathering effort to prevent bus cuts in Seattle helped create momentum for Seattle city leadership to place a measure on the ballot in November 2014 to preserve transit service.
Seattle Children’s Hospital has been at the leading edge of innovation, helping its employees to take transit and bike to work, reducing drive-alone car trips, improving the environment and creating healthy commute options.
Kristina Walker, Downtown on the Go, Tacoma: Kristina works everyday to help employers get people to work in Tacoma. Her innovative ideas have played an important role in making transit, walking and biking real options for employees and residents in downtown Tacoma.
