This the first post in a series about how bus cuts will affect people in King County.

College students are among the groups that will be hit hardest if King County Metro is forced to make cuts. A significant percentage of college students in our region (46% of students at the University of Washington) rely on transit to get around.

Coco Chandi is a student at Highline Community College. Like many Highline students, she uses Metro to get to work, school, and other essential destinations and doesn’t know what she will do without the buses she uses every day.

“I spend three hours a day on the bus getting to and from school and work. Two of the three buses I ride regularly are slated to be eliminated or reduced. I can’t keep my job and go to school if I have to spend an extra hour getting around each day — and I can’t afford a car. Students shouldn’t have to choose between going to college and having a way to get around.”
